Why Elzom Doesn’t Use Pre-Made Settings (And Who That is Not For)

In the jewelry world, there are two main ways to build a ring:
-
The standard way: choose a stone, then choose a pre-made setting from a catalog. These settings are mass produced to fit common stone sizes, slightly adjusted at the bench, and sold thousands of times. It’s fast, cost effective and widely used.
-
Our way: design the setting around the exact stone. From scratch. Every time.
At Elzom, we don’t use off-the-shelf parts. No generic heads. No mass produced mountings. Each ring is built from the ground up, with intention, balance, and longevity.
The Problem With “Close Enough”
Pre-made settings are built for averages, average diamonds, average fingers, average proportions. But when you try to fit a specific diamond into a generic setting, compromises creep in:
-
Imbalance: The ring spins or sits awkwardly on the hand.
-
Blocked brilliance: Light performance suffers because prongs or galleries weren’t made for that diamond.
-
Weakened structure: Thin metal, stressed settings, and premature wear over time.
These issues don’t always show up immediately, but they do show up eventually.
What Makes Elzom Different
We start with the stone. Always.
Using the exact dimensions, depth, crown angle, table, pavilion — we design the setting around how the diamond behaves in light and how it will be worn day to day.
The result:
-
Proportional balance: So it sits right, feels right, and wears comfortably.
-
Optimized brilliance: The setting supports and enhances the diamond’s sparkle.
-
Built to last: Because the ring is a single, intentional design, not parts forced together.
Is It for Everyone?
No. And that’s okay. If you need something quickly, are on a tight budget, or want a simple, one-size-fits-most solution, a pre-made setting might be a better fit.
But if you care about how it’s built, not just how it looks in a photo, we are probably the right fit for you.
Final Thought
There’s nothing wrong with mass-produced jewelry. But we believe the most meaningful pieces should be made with precision, not shortcuts.
We don’t do “almost fits.”
We build rings that belong to your diamond and to you.
